Beatie Queensbury is the most hated woman in the Twittersphere, infamous for her controversial views on the world. Alan can’t even work out how to turn on his mobile phone. A match made in heaven or hell? Nigel Fairs’s new play starts out as a playful “rom com” but becomes a dark, psychological drama that examines what it means to be lost in a world of social media, where a President-elect chooses to tweet his opinions to the nation and a Facebook post can become a matter of life and death. Director Louise Jameson (famous for her roles in Doctor Who, Eastenders, Tenko, Bergerac and Doc Martin and now an award-winning director) says of the play: “Nigel Fairs has created a safe space to debate a dangerous issue. A story of our times, THE APPEAL OF SILENCE is intelligent, witty and deeply moving and it is a privilege to be working with this extraordinary cast and rich text.” “This is a script that took us quite by surprise as it refuses to conform to expectation and tears itself from the constraints of frothy rom com to roar and writhe as a maddened meditation on homophobic bullying, full of fire and fury…. Stunning stuff – highly recommended.” GT
Two acts of 55 minutes. Suitable for ages 15+
